H – Horse. If I were Queen every little girl would get a pony!
H for Horse or Hugh?
H for Horse or Hugh?

I think most little girls at one point in their life would have picked horses over any prince charming. Why do we love horses or at least the idea of have a horse.

I have to say  some of my best friends growing up were horses: Smokey, Mitzi, Pancho, Marya, Jet Set Lena and Tank are just of few of the horse that gave me the honor of riding with them. I also played with Barbie’s horse and she rode with the Lone Ranger, yes I owned Silver. I have several model horses and poster of horses.

“He’s of the color of the nutmeg. And of the heat of the ginger…. he is pure air and fire; and the dull elements of earth and water never appear in him, but only in patient stillness while his rider mounts him; he is indeed a horse, and all other jades you may call beasts.”
William Shakespeare, Henry V

Horse are secondary character in most of my stories. I was blessed to be raised by a mother that loved horses. We always had them in our life. Her grandfather was a farmer and horse trainer for the Army.

It runs strong in our family. The pictures are my cousin Audrey.

Love the post. And, some little girls still dream of having a horse when they reach their 60’s. Looks like Hugh is riding a Paso Fino. Lively gait.

Nona, in High School I worked and trained at Hill View Stables, some of the horses I put miles on were Paso Finos. The is not a more headstrong horse I have met. When they want to go and get to high stepping…watch out, they will run right over you. They are also very thick in the shoulder and neck. Not sure that’s what Hugh is riding here.

Of course!!!! One day my brother and I tried to name all the horses that trotted through the pastures on the ranch. I need to find that list. I know we missed several. There were those that didn’t last long for what ever reasons, they could not stand up in rocks, they were not predictable, and they ended up being crazy! But those were few and far between. Buying ranch horses is not like picking out a pleasure or trail horse. Ours were ranch equipment and very well respected.
